GRAND RAPIDS, MICH - Ionia Mayor Dan Balice announced his endorsement of Michigan Congressional Candidate Trevor Thomas just ahead of the Michigan primary on August 7th. Mayor Balice was first elected in 1990. Both Thomas and Balice are natives of West Michigan, and they both graduated from Grand Valley State University.
"West Michigan needs a representative who will fight for us, and Trevor is the fighter in this race," said Mayor Balice. "To unseat the incumbent, a Democrat is going to have to work harder than ever, and Trevor has what it takes. He'll bring that fight to Washington, and he will help our community because he's standing up for our values. I'm giving Trevor my full support and will work to help him win the primary on August 7th."
"I am grateful for Mayor Balice's support, and for his no nonsense leadership in his community," said Trevor Thomas. "His record of making investments in infrastructure and his work on government reforms at the local level are the kind of solutions I'll fight for in Congress. His steadfast leadership in the community is second to none, and I'm honored to have his backing."
Thomas, who is up against former state legislator Steve Pestka, is the only pro-choice candidate in the August 7th Democratic primary. Earlier this week, Cecile Richards of Planned Parenthood Action Fund announced the endorsement of Thomas. The news follows the support of former Gov. Jennifer Granholm, former Lt. Gov. John Cherry, former Grand Rapids City Commissioner Mary Alice Williams, former Kent County Commissioner Paul Mayhue, former West Michigan Congressional Candidate Fred Johnson (D-MI), Bob Eleveld, IBEW Local 275, Democracy for America Michigan, and the Progressive Women's Alliance of West Michigan, Cate Edwards, U.S. Rep. Diana DeGette (D-CO), U.S. Rep. Raul Grijalva, U.S. Rep. Chellie Pingree and former U.S. Rep. Patrick Murphy.
